When your family has been farming in Alexander Valley for over 140 years it puts a heavy responsibility on your shoulders. Then adding a family wine label to the business, you need to be be nothing short of excellent. We met with Munselle Vineyards owner Brett Munselle at the vineyard office back in early December. The drive through Alexander Valley is one of my favorites but the leftover effects of the Kincade fire were evident all along the way. Winemakers are survivors and certainly the weather and luck play a heavy role in the outcome of this event. Take a listen to Brett’s story and see how a grower becomes a winemaker.
You can also hear Brett on our Vino Lingo segment defining the wine word “Pachiche”

Only one man has built a 13th century style castle in Napa Valley and his name is Dario Sattui. If you were unaware that there was a castle in Napa, all you would have to do is travel up-valley to Calistoga and go up the drive which reveals Castello di Amorosa. Dario started with V. Sattui Winery and worked incredibly hard to eventually build the castle. This is no amusement park. This is a bonafide winery. Dario was a great interview combining humor, story telling and passion along with a dash of self deprecation. His story is impressive and his drive, inspiring. Listen along to a Napa Valley legend to see how is all began.
You can also hear Dario on our Vino Lingo segment defining the phrase “The crazy bastard that built the castle”.
