If you take the time to look up the history of Napa Valley, you may be surprised. Wineries date back to the 1800’s and many of those structures still exist. Frank Family Vineyards features the Larkmead building which like many in the Valley, could tell fascination tales…if they could talk. I caught up with Frank Family Winemaker and General Manager Todd Graff to get up to date on what’s new at the winery. New history being created right now.

The average wine lover likely wouldn’t know the name Rafael Rodiguez. But he was well known to many in the Napa Valley wine business. Rafael was the first Mexican Vineyard Manager in Napa Valley. That was major. He worked for John Daniel Jr at Inglenook as well as Francis Ford Coppola at Inglenook. That’s only the tip of the iceberg. Rafael was born in Mexico City and came to the United State to work and his path eventually led him to wine. Rafael passed away in December of 2021. I was lucky to interview Rafael in 2010 and it was a memorable experience. This is his podcast from thirteen years ago. I hope you enjoy his story.

It was 2015 when I last recorded a full length interview with our friend Robin Lail. Robin is a fourth generation vintner in Napa Valley with her wine family going back to the 1800’s. She has seen a multitude of changes in the Valley over the years but her goal remains the same, making the current vintage even better than the last. I always enjoy my time sitting and chatting with Robin. She is the very best of Napa Valley.
