Brent Amos wears three hats at Las Positas Vineyards in Livermore Valley, Winemaker, Partner and General Manager. In that case, I imagine harvest is likely more than a 24 hour day for him. But Livermore Valley is the kind of place that’s so laid-back, it almost doesn’t seem like work. Las Positas offers a broad selection and focuses on handcrafted small lot wines. And those are the kind of wines our listeners love. So do I.

Brett Caires is a hard working guy. Well, all winemakers are hard working but shaking Brett’s hand really tells the story. The whole family works the winery and takes pride in the final product. Wines that get your attention. Whites and Reds. Not to mention some pretty interesting family history. This winery is about as casual as it gets. You gotta like that!

Livermore Valley is a welcoming and yet close community, just to the east of San Francisco. By close I mean every winemaker seems to know each other and they show a great deal of respect for with wines they make by drinking each others wines. Wineries are just about a 15 minute drive apart which is nice for visitors. For this podcast I met up with Mark Clarin, Winemaker at McGrail Vineyards & Winery. Mark is a musician as well as winemaker and very comfortable in each role. That’s because it’s passion, plain and simple.
