A common term found in the winery business….family. Vintners start the business and
often hope to see their children join the business to keep it in the family….and many times what comes with that are the people that help run the winery.Vineyard workers, cellar rats, tasting room managers…and winemakers.
Bryan Kays is the Winemaker at Trefethen Family Vineyards, located in the Oak Knoll District
of Napa Valley. Working for the winery for ten years, Bryan has seen all angles of the business
and like many winemakers, he has a good story to tell. Bryan was in Milwaukee for a winemakers dinner at Eddie Martini’s restaurant in early March and he stopped by the LBTV studios to tell
a few of those stories.

The week leading up to Premiere Napa Valley, tastings around the valley are hosted by vintners for potential bidders to sample the offered lots. During this week we attended the Oakville Vintners, Spring Mountain Vintners, Shafer Vineyards, First Taste of Yountville and Paraduxx winery events, just to name a few. We were also lucky enough to be invited to the vintners dinner hosted by Frank Family Vineyards, which was simply exceptional. During these events we spoke with the busy winemakers and owners as they poured their wines, so as to give you a little peak into the efforts that go into making Premiere Napa Valley.

To all our listeners we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
This newsletter will be the final one for 2015. The next podcast and newsletter will run the first week of January. We have brought you interviews with over 300 winemakers from all over the world and it is our intent to continue to extend our reach to new and familiar winemakers alike. We also include our “Ray’s Picks” which features all the wines posted in the 2015 newsletters. Here’s hoping you have enjoyed reading these bits as much as we enjoy gathering them for you.
Over the years we have met many Napa Valley winemakers….but Ron Sciandri was big a favorite. We interviewed Ron and his daughter Rebecca at the family home in Coombsville in February of 2014. Ron had a huge smile for everyone and exuded classic wine country hospitality. His wine is excellent and we frankly feel very lucky to have met and talked with him. Ron passed away on November 13th. While in the coming weeks we have several brand new interviews to share, we felt it was a nice idea to remember a guy that left a big impression. So cheers to Ron Sciandri….take a listen and crack a smile.
