The Willamette Valley is one of the
most fertile places I’ve ever visited. Nurseries seem to be
everywhere. Vineyards cover the hills and valley, growing some of
the worlds best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. I call Oregon a must
visit state for wine. So when travel resumes, it’s my hope to meet
in person with Utopia Vineyard owner and winemaker Dan Warnshuis. I
spoke with Dan by phone last week to learn about his winery and to be
updated on tasting room openings.

What would make you leave the film
industry to enter the world of wine? Passion, what else? Jake Gray,
General Manager at L’Angolo Estate in the Willamette Valley goes back
to day one of the winery operation. Jake is ironically from Davis,
California, and UC Davis is well known for producing top winemakers.
So why the career change? Those who get it, answer the call. We met
with Jake at the tasting room a few weeks ago enjoying the morning
sun while we talked about our common favorite subject, wine.
